Historically, Toowoomba was first drained in 1926 whereas the development of Wetalla water reclamination facility started in the same period. The construction of Biological Nutrient Reduction (BNR) plant was observed in 1996, which was further followed by the construction of new bioreactor and the solar drying hall in 2006. In the diagram, it is demonstrated that influent is screened for solids as well as for girt. The capacity of plant is comprised of maximum capacity 100 ML/day, design capacity 33ML, normal operating volume 25 ML, biomass concentration in the aeration tank 3500-4000 mg/L, wasting rate 25 ML/day, estimated hydraulic detention time in the reactor tank 2 days and sludge age 20 days.
Water Treatment Plant
The water treatment plant of Toowoomba is comprised of three large water supply systems named as Cress Brook Dam, Perseverance Dam and Cooby Dam. The water treatment plant systems are found with the observed volume capacity of the plant equal to 68ML. This plant is further found with 740ML/day operating condition along with the 20-25 ML/day normal condition. The performance of these water supply systems largely depends on their storage for supply system such as number of intakes, limitless discharge of water and the pumps capacity in each system.
Cress Brook Dam
The cress brook dam is 278 meters large with the wall built with clay. The intake of the dam is seven, which helps in providing the easiest and cheapest treated water. Cress brook receives the water in its western branch all the way from Perso spillway, which is 2.75 ML/sec. The storage capacity of the cress brook is 83 GL and lift 278mtrs to jockey and 286 to Pechey. The number of pumps in the cress brook dam is two while each is with 500L/s and 550L/s capacity. In peak season, the expense of treatment at cress brook dam is $200 per ML.
The perseverance dam is 286 meters large while five intakes with Perso. Moreover, the lake has 222Ha with the storage of 32GL. The dam lifts 301meters with the pump capacity of 410 L/s. In peak season, the expense of treatment at perseverance dam is $110 per ML.
The cooby dam is with the storage limit of 23GL while its intake is three and it releases 1.8 ML/s of water. The dam has three pumps with the capacity of 90, 160 and 200 ML/s. In peak season, the expense of treatment at cooby dam is $280 per ML.
